Design Work - Beluga Whale

The beluga whale

The beluga whale was the most inspirational animal to design from, the folds and creases in the body got me a lot of design work, i finally found a smocking technique that i loved (and which took hours) and i feel represent the whale perfectly.

Design Work - Ringed Seal

My inspiration for this dress came for the ringed seal which isn't the most beautiful animal but it found a place in my heart whilst researching about them. They have a lovely ringed (hence the name) pattern all over their body which inspired the manipulation in this dress. I have create lots of rings around the middle of the dress from folded over fabric sewn down (kind of like pleats), they go all the way round to the back of the dress. The shape was inspired by an image of the seals skin hanging (I now not very nice but it was inspirational).
The dress has dropped arm holes and a high neck line front and back, the arm hole is to mimic the shape of the skin here.

Design Work - Snow Leopard

I have a dress inspired by a snow leopard which i really enjoyed designing as i got to look at cute snow leopards all day for inspiration. I found some eco friendly and economic fur that i really wanted to use but as i was designing for summer i didn't know how. I played around with some of the fabrics in different ways and looked at some primary research to give me inspiration ehich allowed me to come up with the dress i have.

Design Work - Emperor Penguin

Here I have the outfit inspired by emperor penguins, i took the inspiration for this straight from the penguins from their wings to the markings n the skin and also the texture of the skin. The fabrics used for this dress were silk and a fleece lined with a water proof backing which gave it a shiny effect which reflects the penguins skin.

Design Work - Arctic Fox

The inspiration for this dress was an arctic fox, i wanted to create a dress that would remind me of an arctic fox. They are sooooo cute which made me want to create a cute little dress that could be worn by all ages. The dress has a lot of detail in the top as each section is a v shape made in different fabrics all sewn together. I got the V shape idea from the pointy ears of the fox and this also ties in with the polar bear inspiration.

Design work - Polar Bear

The first animal i was inspired by was the polar bear, the polar bear I feel is most at threat and is the most famous animals living in the arctic.

I have designed a dress inspired by the polar bear, from the texture of their skin to the pattern their fur makes.

Close up images of the details in the dress

An image that inspired me was this triangle picture taken from an Iris Van Herpen dress, triangles were a big part of my inspiration for this dress.

Inspiration

The inspiration for my final collection was the Arctic and all the animals living there, i wanted to have a message behind my clothes that said something meaningful. My collection is fully eco friendly and was made by myself in the UK. Being eco friendly was one f my main influences as many animals in the Arctic are struggling with global warming and may not survive much longer. I wanted to help through fashion, each dress is inspired by an animal who lives in the Arctic to let people know they are suffering.
